Qualcomm Accelerates Data Center Push with New AI Chips
Qualcomm is expanding its horizons beyond smartphones by venturing into the AI data center market. The company announced plans to launch two new AI chips, the AI200 and AI250, in 2026 and 2027, respectively. These chips are designed to enhance memory capacity and support a wide range of AI applications, making them compatible with major AI frameworks and equipped with advanced software tools aimed at reducing enterprise operational costs.
To further bolster its AI capabilities, Qualcomm has acquired Alphawave, a semiconductor design firm, for $2.4 billion, and is collaborating with Nvidia to develop custom data center CPUs. This strategic move has led to a nearly 15% surge in Qualcomm's shares, signaling strong investor confidence in its AI initiatives.
